Baron Buysse is an international business leader. For several decades he managed important London based companies, including BTR plc. He also lead Vickers plc through a transformational restructuring including both the difficult period around the sale of Rolls Royce and the acquisition of Ullstein Werke.
Since 2000 Baron Buysse has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bekaert NV/SA, an international Belgian based group with a turnover of €4 billion.
He is also Chairman of Immobel – “Compagnie Immobilière de Belgique”, of the College of Censors of the National Bank of Belgium and of the Family Business Network Belgium. In addition, he holds numerous other Board positions, as well as other functions such as membership of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Belgian Industries (“FEB”).
Baron Buysse is also the main author of the Code Buysse, the Belgian Code of Corporate Governance for non-listed companies.
He is Officer of the National Order of Merit (France), Commander in the Order of Leopold II (Belgium), Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Great Britain), Honorary Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St George (Great Britain), Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Netherlands), Honorary Citizen of Jianghin City (China), Shanghai Magnolia Gold Award Winner (China), Honorary Citizen of Chongqing (China) and Honorary Citizen of New Orleans (USA).
